This would be short.
But first let me make some small clarification about my blog. The title of the blog is “Investing in Philippines” and with that I know lots of visitors like you are expecting the latest free opinions, advice, or other tips on stock investing, mutual funds, online stock investments and other investing vehicles but its seems those topics are not in abundance. Yes I do write my personal opinions and lately they kinda been fewer because I think it is better first to make you debt-free before diving into these great investment vehicles specially now that the Philippine Stock Market is in a uptrend. I believe in the philosophy of “you cannot give what you don’t have.” That is the reason why for the mean time I talk more about how to get you out of debt and how to make that permanent once you achieve your “freedom from debt” day.
So again this will be short.
Lots of time you would probably read about stores having midnight sale, inventory sale, discount sale, warehouse sale or closing-out sale. Of course who would not be enticed to check it when a flat screen TV or a laptop is now at half its price or you can buy 12 packs of beer a third of the original price. And most mothers and fathers out there are stretching out their budget and with such sales you will surely buy because you are getting the most value out of your money.
I am not saying that these sales are not good or it is not a wise action not to buy when there is a sale; the one that in my opinion is an unwise decision is to buy stuff on-sale that you don’t actually need but buy it anyways because it is half or a third of its original price. Worse is you buy 4 or 10 of that on sale merchandise even if the expiration date is next month.
My personal advice is to buy non-perishable items that you need for the whole year when they are on sale as long as you can keep them in good shape in your house. Ever tried buying 20 packs of 96 rolls per pack tissue and have problem where are you going to store them or maybe buying 2 cases of 3 per pack and 40 packs in a case of bath soap. Maybe you have space to store it but be careful that roaches and rats might find it and start chewing or making holes on those cases.
It is wise to buy in bulk as long as you know you can consume them before its quality deteriorates or some other unwanted guess in your house chew them.
Any good advice on buying sale items in bulk? Please share them in the comment box below.
